Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday launched ‘Ama Ghare LED’ scheme under which the State Government will distribute four bulbs free of cost to 95 lakh households enrolled under national/state food security schemes in the State.

The bulbs would be given to the beneficiaries on January 15 during the PEETHA programme in panchayats. Nearly 95 lakh beneficiaries would be benefitted under the scheme. Those who fail to receive the bulbs can collect the same from the PDS centre and gram panchayat offices.

The bulbs would be distributed in a phased manner across the State.

Under the scheme four LED bulbs of 9 watt would be provided to each to the NFSA, SFSS beneficiaries in the State. As per the announcement, about 95 lakh beneficiaries in the State will avail the benefit. The State will procure 3.80 lakh bulbs for distribution among the beneficiaries, who will avail the same during PEETHA (People’s Empowerment - Enabling Transparency and Accountability of Odisha Initiative) camps scheduled to be held between January 15 and 20, Energy department secretary Hemant Sharma informed the media.

The new scheme of the State Government is seen as a counter to Ujala scheme launched by the Centre in 2015 under which more than 1.26 crore people have been benefited in the State.With quality light, these bulbs will reduce the electricity bill of the poor consumers, he added.
