Bhubaneswar: Additional Director General of Police Satyajit Mohanty on Friday assumed charge as the sixth Commissioner of Police (CP) of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police. He took charge from YB Khurania.

Upon his arrival at the Commissionerate headquarters, the top cop was accorded a grand welcome by senior police officials, including Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo and Cuttack DCP Akhilevsar Singh.

Mohanty, a 1988 batch officer, replaced Y B Khurania of 1990 batch, who has been transferred as ADG (Provisioning). Mohanty was earlier in charge of Provisioning.

Last week, the State Government effected a massive reshuffle in senior Odisha cadre IPS officers and posted Mohanty as the new CP of the Twin City.  The Government also gave new assignments to eight other officers as part of the reshuffle.

Since DGP Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma had gone abroad and Mohanty was officiating as the DGP, there was delay in taking over as CP.

Mohanty had started his career as ASP, Jeypore in 1990. He has served as ADG (Headquarters), ADG (Law and Order), ADG (Provisioning), Director of Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA), among others.
